April Lockhart

April Lockhart was born on July 4, 1995. In seventh grade she began playing the guitar as well as taking piano lessons, sparking her interest in songwriting. At the age of 12 April wrote her first song Different. At the age of 14, April was devoted for a long period of time in making song lyrics and working on her musical skills. In the following months, April started to take trips in NY and LA together with her father to help them write songs. April added other themes to the song "Take My Hand" for some of acquaintances who faced issues such as peer pressurization disabilities, and even teenage suicide. Lockhart is an influencer in the beauty and lifestyle industry with an ever-growing following. She collaborates with the renowned brand Ilia with whom she has a partnership and is also an expert in the field of lifestyle. She was born without a left hand. This makes her unique. However, this isn't the only characteristic of her. Lockhart's profile on Twitter doesn't ignore her status as disabled and does not focus on it. The message? that we are all a part of a multitude of identities and that we are greater than the physical person we are. Lockhart stated in a video interview that she didn't want to be defined by her handicap. She doesn't wish to become an advocate for disabled people who only talks about that. There are a lot of aspects of Lockhart. It doesn't impact my daily life. I go about the same way as I always do and have come up with my own ways to adapt. Since it's a an integral part of me It's a topic worthy of discussion. Lockhart is a true source of source of inspiration for anyone who wants to be self-accepting she is on a long process to attain it. Lockhart admits to having been through a few phases regarding her appearance, feeling insecure at times to wear clothes that showed her arms. Nowadays, she can wear whatever she likes. and she shares her photos on social media. Self-love she said is a process. "I do not think that you'll ever get in that place," she said. However, that is common for anyone that is prone to doubts. I think it is important to be around people who can really see the person you are.
